This Is What You Need To Know About Omega Aqua Terra

This Is What You Need To Know About Omega Aqua Terra

Omega introduced the Aqua Terra collection in 2003. The watches from this exclusive range strikes a perfect balance between ocean spirit and elegance.

Interestingly, many people considered the Omega Aqua Terra to be a competitor of the Rolex Datejust.

Nonetheless, the Omega Aqua Terra model has seen significant success over the years for its robust durability and classic elegance.

Today, let's find out more about the famous Omega Aqua Terra collection, including its different series.

Have a look!

Explicit Features of Omega Aqua Terra

The Omega Aqua Terra is not only sophisticated in its design but also engineering.

The watch comes with antimagnetic as well as water-resistance qualities, making it incredibly durable.

  • Interestingly, modern iterations can combat magnetic fields up to 15,000-gauss. And, it makes the Aqua Terra one of the best antimagnetic timepieces of the world.
  • Moreover, with the case-back and screw-down winding crown, the Aqua Terra is water-resistant up to 500ft (150m).
  • Unlike the Omega Seamaster watches, the Omega Aqua Terra doesn't feature a rotating bezel. Eventually, it makes the watch's case sleek and elegant.

Another specific aspect of the Aqua Terra collection is its versatility.  Omega offers the Aqua Terra in different variations.

  • Collectors can choose between classic stainless steel models, bi-tone, signature Sedna gold, and also titanium and yellow gold.

Moreover, collectors are also given a choice between polyester, leather, polyamide, and rubber straps, and matching metal bands.

The Omega Aqua Terra Series: From 2003 To 2009

When Omega introduced the Aqua Terra in 2003, the watch was fitted with the brand's first Co-Axial movement - the Calibre 2500.

  • This ETA-based movement was slender and accurate, eventually making the watch to measure only 11mm wide.
  • However, the Aqua Terra features a clean dial with pointed hour markers and a date window at 3 o'clock and a polished smooth bezel.
Omega released the first generation of the collection in three different case sizes - 42mm, 39.5mm, and 36mm.

The Aqua Terra "Skyfall" Series: From 2010 To 2015

The Aqua Terra "Skyfall" Series

While the second series of the Aqua Terra made an appearance in the James Bond film "Skyfall", it was nicknamed as the "Skyfall".

However, the Aqua Terra "Skyfall" series was not any special edition. The fact is -

Omega made several upgrades to the movement and dial, producing a completely new generation of the Aqua Terra.
  • The new generation was equipped with the COSC-certified Calibre 8500 movement.
  • The in-house movement featured two mainspring barrels, a quick-set hour hand, and a 60-hour power reserve.
  • Moreover, the case size also increased to 12.85mm, offering a more robust and gentle feel on the wrist.
  • Omega also refined the aesthetics of the watch to give a more bold appearance and more excellent legibility.

More significantly, the new Aqua Terra featured a frame on the date window and slightly reshaped hands that boosted the sporty feel.

Finally, the watch was fitted with a re-modified 3-link stainless steel bracelet and a butterfly clasp.

The Aqua Terra "Spectre" Series: From 2015 To 2016

Although this "Spectre" is a short-lived series, it saw some compelling improvements. For example -
  • The movement was upgraded to Master Co-Axial status because of its antimagnetic properties.
  • The upgraded movement offers magnetic resistance up to 15000-gauss.

On the contrary, the frame around the date window disappeared.

Moreover, this new version was fitted with a mirror-polished centre link bracelet instead of an all-brushed finished bracelet.

Daniel Craig also wore this version of the watch in the James Bond film "Spectre". However, it allegedly didn't enjoy a similar fanfare like the earlier "Skyfall" series.

The Current Aqua Terra: From 2017 To Present

Current Aqua Terra

Omega retained the teak-patterned dial in the contemporary Aqua Terra models, however turning it horizontally.
  • Another significant change that is apparent on the dial is the position of the date window.
  • Current models feature a date window at 6 o'clock position on their symmetrical and uncluttered dial.

However, other mechanical upgrades made to the latest Aqua Terra models are as follows:
  • The modern Aqua Terra watches house three different types of movements, each based on the Calibre 8500.
  • The Omega Aqua Terra 41mm models are powered by the Calibre 8901 and 8900.
  • However, the 38mm versions run on the comparatively smaller Calibre 8800.
  • While the Calibre 8901 and 8900 movements offer 60-hour power reserve, the 8800 movement boasts 55-hour power reserve.

Regardless, these three movements are Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology or METAS -certified.

However, the new movements offer antimagnetic resistance up to 15000-gauss. It makes the Aqua Terra one of the best antimagnetic watches in the world.
